June 18, 2020 – Sukup Manufacturing Co. is pleased to welcome 31 summer interns to the company for a hands-on learning experience in manufacturing. Interns will be working in Quality Engineering, Design Engineering, Legal/Human Resources, and Manufacturing.
“Through my internship, I’m learning a great deal about how to effectively operate Solidworks,” said Justin Dillon, an intern from Sumner, Iowa, and Agricultural Engineering major at Iowa State University. He added, “I’m learning technical skills, as well as how the entire system coordinates between the office, engineers, and the plant floor. I value the internship experience, it’s just as important as the schooling.”
Tyler Rau was one of the first interns at Sukup, and now works as a full-time engineer. He said, “My internship experience at Sukup exposed me to the engineering process within a manufacturing facility. The knowledge I gained about how a manufacturing company operates during my time as an intern ultimately helped me obtain a full-time position in a field related to my engineering degree. I also enjoy introducing new interns to hands-on work experience and our company culture at Sukup.”
A strong proponent for growing the internship program, General Counsel and third generation family member Emily Schmitt added, “We look forward to our interns starting each year, because they bring such a level of energy and curiosity. It’s exciting and rewarding to receive more than 400 resumes and to hear, ‘My dream job is to work at Sukup!’ Our internship program has come a long way, and we see these interns as key to our future growth in the agriculture industry.”
The company has implemented a wide variety of CDC-recommended health precautions for all employees, including interns. Interns also participated in additional health screenings required for newly hired employees and were provided with a letter detailing all health precautions prior to beginning their internship at our manufacturing facility.
