Former Sukup Employee Inducted into Iowa Volunteer Hall of Fame

Jun 2, 2022

On September 7, 2021, Governor Kim Reynolds inducted former Sukup Manufacturing Co. employee, Warren Van Dyke of Greene, Iowa, into the Iowa Volunteer Hall of Fame. This prestigious honor is the highest recognition volunteers can receive for volunteer efforts in their communities in the state of Iowa.

The governor and lieutenant governor recognize inductees in a special ceremony held at the State Capitol Building, and their names are engraved on the Volunteer Hall of Fame plaque on permanent display in the State Historical Museum. Van Dyke attended the ceremony with members of his family. Mary Sukup, as well as Mary and Charles Sukup, Sukup Manufacturing Board Chair, also attended.

“Warren’s commitment to his community was continually shown at Sukup Manufacturing Co. If Warren had asked for anything, it was not for himself, but for someone else or for a great cause!” said Steve Sukup, President and CEO of Sukup Manufacturing.

His volunteer activities extend across a variety of organizations. Warren strongly believed in supporting his community and church. A glimpse at his volunteer efforts:

  • Started the Pheasants Forever chapter in Louisa County
  • 13 years as hunter safety instructor
  • Six years on the Greene and North Butler school boards
  • Coached 3rd and 6th grade boys’ basketball for nine years
  • Member of the Green and Wapello Volunteer Fire Departments
  • Trustee for St. John’s Lutheran church
  • 20 plus years of membership with Butler County Pork Promoters
  • Four missions trips to Haiti to help build Sukup Safe T Homes®

“Congratulations to Warren from all your friends at Sukup Manufacturing Co. for being elected to the Iowa Hall of Fame,” said Mary Sukup, Sukup Manufacturing Corporate Secretary. “We are so proud of you for being so much help and a joy to many others.”

Van Dyke worked at Sukup Manufacturing Co. for 17 years and retired in 2020. During his time at Sukup he held multiple positions.
