People Behind the Product – Julie Eisentrager
For Sukup Manufacturing Co.’s Julie Eisentrager, traveling across the country to deliver grain dryers is a dream job. “I’m a gypsy. Always knew I was. I love America, and I love the scenery,” she shares.
For almost 10 years, Eisentrager has turned the key of a Volvo semi truck and delivered dryers to customers and dealers, traveling as far as Arizona and the East Coast. She says one thing she’s learned over the years is the delivery flexibility offered by Sukup is oftentimes unmatched by other companies.
“We’re versatile in where we’ll deliver a dryer. Not all manufacturers do that,” she explained. “We’re willing to take them where it’s convenient for the customer.”
Though Eisentrager has a passion for the open road, she didn’t always find herself seated behind the wheel of a semi. It was a major life challenge that led her to chase a dream.
“After I survived cancer, I decided to pursue truck driving, which was something that I’d always had in the back of my mind.” Along the way, Eisentrager had to convince her toughest critics she could do it – her two sons drive truck, and her husband Gene has spent 25 years driving truck for Sukup Manufacturing.
“I had to go to school, because at the time, I couldn’t even back up a trailer. My husband and sons weren’t the best support system, but I worked hard, completed the driving program, and found a job driving,” she remembers.
With several years of driving experience under her belt, Eisentrager applied for a position at Sukup Manufacturing where the rest, as they say, is history. During her time spent behind the wheel, she’s most enjoyed working with dealers and customers and offers big compliments to the company she’s called home for almost a decade.
“The thing about Eugene Sukup is, he might have 500 employees, but I can guarantee you he knows every one of their names, and Steve and Charles are the same way. It’s a real perk to work for a company like that.”
Eisentrager says she has no plans to slow down, and credits her good health to spending her days doing something she loves. “You’re not going to live a long life doing a job you don’t like. I like to think working here is good for my immune system.”
