After the tragic storm, Hurricane Matthew, left Haiti in disarray, the light that shined brightest was the huge success of the Safe T Homes®, constructed by Sukup Manufacturing Co. in Sheffield, Iowa.
100 percent of the 200 Safe T Homes® established in Haiti by Sukup and GoServ Global, of Eagle Grove, Iowa, withstood the high winds and rain produced by the hurricane, while only 10 percent of the traditional housing survived.
Just days after the storm passed, GoServ Global’s Co-Founder, Ken DeYoung, flew a small crew into Haiti to help start to rebuild and relieve the surrounding villages of Les Cayes. They delivered much needed emergency supplies such as water and food.
Sukup Manufacturing has once again joined forces with GoServ Global to help with their efforts in Haiti. After the success of their “50 Homes for Humanity” event in 2013, where they raised funds to send over 50 Safe T Homes® to Haiti, they decided now was the time to rally together again. After Hurricane Matthew, GoServ Global was able to raise funds to provide 10 Safe T Homes® to deliver to the areas affected. Sukup Manufacturing has since matched that number and was able to donate 10 additional homes.
Since those 20 Safe T Homes® have been sent to Haiti, GoServ Global has raised the funds for another 10 Safe T Homes® bringing the total to 30 new Safe T Homes® for the victims of Haiti.
Those who would like to see a Safe T Home® up close will have the chance at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11 when Sukup Manufacturing will be constructing a Safe T Home® at Zion Lutheran Church’s “The Dock” in Clear Lake, Iowa. This event is open to the public and is a great opportunity to see how a Safe T Home® is erected.
On Thursday, Nov. 17 Sukup Manufacturing will be featured, along with GoServ Global, at the Bridging the Summits Leadership Series event again at “The Dock” in Clear Lake. They will be speaking about the construction of Safe T Homes® in hurricane relief efforts in Haiti. The program starts at 6 p.m. with networking and refreshments at 5:30 p.m. There will be a Safe T Home® available to tour as well.
