Sukup Manufacturing Co. Peaked Roof Vent helps prevent bin roof corrosion, damage to grain
SHEFFIELD, Iowa -- Corrosion that leads to leaks on bin roofing can cost owners time and money due to repairs and damage to grain. A durable and uniquely shaped new product from Sukup Manufacturing Co. will help eliminate such problems.
The new 18-inch Peaked Roof Vent is designed to prevent moisture and debris such as bees’ wings, fines and dust from collecting in the “valley” between the sloping bin roof and the backside of roof vents. If not removed, the debris and moisture can cause corrosion of the roof. The sloped V shape of the back of the Peaked Roof Vent channels debris and moisture around the vent. Blowholes in the vent also discourage debris accumulation.
The Sukup Peaked Roof Vent, patent pending, is made of low-density polyethylene with an additive that protects the vent from degradation from ultraviolet rays.
According to Sukup Bin Sales Director John Hanig, the durable polyethylene helps the vents “bounce back” from bumps, meaning they’ll look better over time than traditional metal roof vents.
“They’re an improvement over traditional bin roof vents in several ways,” Hanig said. “They’re more resilient, they won’t corrode and they won’t trap debris and moisture the way traditional roof vents have.”
Sukup’s Peaked Roof Vents can be easily retrofitted to existing bins, improving ventilation and protection of the grain inside, and protecting the roof.
The Peaked Roof Vents can be purchased through Sukup Bin Dealers. Contact Sukup Manufacturing Co. for the name of your nearest dealer.
